Lady Ann
Lady Ann had a very rough start, but as you can see from her picture, she has learned to smile again. When she wandered into a kind woman's yard, Lady Ann was starving, had lost much of her hair, and had literally hundreds of ticks all over her. The nice woman who found her contacted us and we took her into our program. Her physical condition improved dramatically with some good food and medical care. Her hair grew back soft and beautiful, and she is healthy now. She has a lucky new owner who is committmed to helping her overcome her ongoing emotional problems.
Rosie and Dawson
Rosie and Dawson are two very lucky pups. When they came to us from the pound, they brought parvovirus with them and became very, very sick. We had them treated and thankfully, they pulled through and have recovered without any lasting effects. Treatment can be quite expensive, since it most often involves a stay at the emergency vet for fluids and close monitoring, and we were so grateful to have the money in our bank be able to save them. Both Rosie & Dawson have now found loving "furever" homes.
Mamie
This sweet girl was the unfortunate victim of a very easily preventable problem in this area. Mamie was heartworm positive when we took her in. She went through treatment to get rid of them. Treatment involves a series of shots and medications to kill the heartworms and is doing great. Treatment for heartworms is much more expensive and dangerous, than monthly heartworm preventative. Mamie is one lucky lady. Before we even listed her for adoption, we found a great home for her. We had a very nice gentleman interested in another dog, but he sounded like a perfect match for Mamie, so we told him about her, and he agreed with us.
Handsome Ransom
Ransom is about the most patient dog you'll ever meet. He waited over a year for the perfect new home. He was found under a bush in the pouring rain with a female dog we named Lady Rena, and her puppies. Despite the cold and rain, Ransom was a loyal companion and wouldn't leave the momma dog and her puppies. We took all of them in to find them new homes. That's when we discovered that Handsome Ransom was heartworm positive. Luckily it was not too advanced and could be treated. Ransom watched patiently as all of the puppies and then Lady Rena were adopted into loving new homes. After over a year in foster care through CPS, this wonderful, deserving fellow has found his perfect forever home. His new name is Hansom & it sure does suit him ! We couldn't be happier for him & his new owner!
Torie
This gentle giant has a very sad story. She had been bred so many times, over and over again, when we got her, that she was suffering from a condition called a prolapsed vagina and had to undergo an emergency spay surgery. As if that weren't enough, she also had a very high fever, and was infested with fleas. The collar she's wearing in this picture also had to be cut off of her neck because it was so tight, despite the fact that she is at least 30 pounds underweight. This poor girl has obviously been through a lot, but she has a heart of gold and a sweet personality to match it. Torie has been adopted by a wonderful family who just love her to pieces. She has a new canine sibling, and some human siblings as well. Best of luck to you and your new family, Torie!
Chloe
Miss Chloe had a very rough time of it when we took her to be spayed, and ended up at the emergency vet. Her stay there had a happy ending though, as one of the vets treating her fell in love, and asked to make her part of his family. He also quite generously took care of all of her medical treatment. We wish Chloe the best of luck in her new life as a well-loved, well-cared for part of the family!
Lacy
Lacy's story had a sad beginning, but a very happy ending. She was found wandering all alone, her body extremely thin, her fur matted, and her spirit broken. She was overwhelmed by people and other dogs. As if being lonely and scared weren't enough, Lacy got out of the kennel at her foster home and was hit by a car. Her leg was broken in three places, her hip dislocated, and her lung was punctured. We weren't sure she'd make it through that first night. Lacy proved to be a tough girl though, and not only survived the night, but survived having her rear leg amputated as well. Lacy is doing wonderfully now. She gets along as well on three legs as she ever did on four and doesn't even know she's any different. She's over her fear of people and other dogs. She is trusting and quite loving with everyone now.

Cisco
This special, loving fellow is Cisco Kid. He was diagnosed with moderate hip displasia and cruciate ligament disease shortley after he arrived at CPS. He had surgery on both of his knees to alleviate the problem and his veterinarian says that now surgery will not be necessary on his hips. Cisco has been adopted into a wonderful new home where he gets to go on many fun adventures. He is now known as Aspen.
Mimi
Believe it or not, Mimi looks much better in this picture than she did when she first came to us. She was so badly matted that she had to be shaved all over. And they found a piece of velcro wrapped around her leg and tangled in the mats. She had been living that way for so long that she was not used to having anything touch her skin, and was incredibly sensitive. Thanks to some special medicine from the vet, and some time and patience, Mimi now knows the joy of snuggling, and is doing very well in her new home.
